In My Tongue

It's a bittersweet relationship with English...

The current generation that's coming up, they don't know their parents' languages.

I would remember what that word meant, and then figure out what they were saying that way.

For Kikuyu, it's been also an advantage, because during New Years, we hit a goat.

And then she started speaking English to me, and I was like, "This doesn't feel right."

I knew French better than I know my parents' mother tongue.

Like, it's a local language, why are you making fun of them?

We always felt like French wasn't a cool language to speak, and like, English was the cool language.

With French, I feel kind of conflicted about it...
